With protests in support for justice to Kathua rape and murder victim showing no let up in Kashmir, at least fourteen people on Thursday sustained injuries in the clashes in Shopian district.

The students came out of coaching centers and clashed with the forces near Jamia Masjid.

The forces fired tear smoke shells and pellets.

At least fourteen students sustained injured in the clashes. “Two of the students were hit by pellets in their eyes and were shifted to SMHS hospital –Srinagar for treatment,” a doctor in SDH Shopian told Greater Kashmir.

The students also hit the streets in Delina area of Baramulla.

The protesters pelted the forces with stones who responded by firing pellets and teargas. The protests occurred despite the authorities suspending class work in educational institutions at many places in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Anantnag districts.

After violent protests at over a dozen places on Wednesday, authorities had taken precautionary measures to avoid a face-off between the agitating students and the forces.

Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in Tral area of Pulwama district on second consecutive day today.

Youth threw stones on some shops and public vehicles in the morning to enforce shutdown in the area.

Following the incident, shopkeepers downed their shutters and traffic disappeared from the roads.
