The police Friday said the second militant killed in Athoora-Kreeri gunfight in northern Baramulla district Thursday was identified as Minhajul Mohiuddin Mir from Brath Kalan area of Sopore.
Earlier, the police had identified one of the two slain militants as Akeel Ahmad Sofi of Khanpora, Baramulla.
Minhaj’s body was handed over to his family on Friday afternoon and later, thousands of people from Sopore and its adjoining areas participated in his funeral prayers at Brath Kalan.
The body was, amid pro-freedom sloganeering, taken in a procession to the martyrs’ graveyard and laid to rest.
A group of militants appeared at Minhaj’s funeral and offered a gun salute to him, a group of witnesses said.
Minhaj was active for the past one year, according to his relatives, and had left home in December 2017 to join the militant ranks.
He is survived by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
