KU holds National Science Day seminar, drug designing workshop

University of Kashmir on Thursday organised one-day seminar on ‘National Science Day 2019’, in collaboration with J&K state science, technology and innovation council.

The university also held the workshop on ‘Fundamentals onDrug Designing’.

   

The National Science Day seminar with its theme “CommunicatingScience for All”, was held by varsity’s department of pharmaceutical sciences,during which Prof Zafar Ahmad Reshi, dean research, KU deliberated on the themeof the topic.

Prof. Farooq Ahmad Masoodi, dean school of applied sciencesand technology highlighted importance of the day with special reference to thetheme.

Head Prof Zulfiqar AliBhat welcomed the guests from various institutions and also highlightedachievements of the department. Among the speakers who presented their powerpoint presentation were Prof Zafar Ahmad Reshi, Dr Ajaz-ul-Hamid Wani ofdepartment of biotechnology, Dr Muzamil Ahmad Andrabi of IIIM, Srinagar and DrShahzada Mudasir Rashid, Faculty of veterinary sciences, SKUAST-K.

The program was also attended by the students of Boys HigherSecondary School, Hazratbal. The proceedings of the program were conducted byDr Mubashir Hussain Masoodi, convenor of the seminar and the vote of thanks wasproposed by Dr Mohammad Iqbal Zargar, faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Similarly, the workshop on Fundamentals on Drug Designingwas organized by Department of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics Centre Universityof Kashmir and held in Science Block auditorium of the varsity.

Dean Academic Affairs Kashmir University Prof Musadiq AminSahaf was the chief guest on the occasion.

Hecongratulated the department for organizing the workshop and said thatBioinformatics plays an important role in drug designing. ” For the departmentto thrive there are some important strategies to consider which include anintegrated approach in various sciences and technologies, innovative methods in researchand development, a proper regulatory system in the drug industry with companiestaking up social responsibilities and higher marketing cost,” said Prof Sahaf.
