A policeman of Special Operations Group (SOG) was on Wednesday wounded in an ongoing gunfight with militants in Halmatpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Quoting sources, GNS news agency reported that an SOG man, identified as Javid Ahmad, sustained bullet wounds in his leg today morning during the firefight in Check Fatehkhan area.

Reports said that exchange of fire was intermittently on during the night. However, firing intensified this morning in which the SOG man was injured.

Last night, army claimed to have recovered three bodies of the militants from the site of the gunfight.

The slain militants are believed to be part of a group of six militants against whom the operation was launched but suspended in the evening because of darkness and difficult terrain.

Earlier, an army spokesman claimed that four militants were killed in the ongoing gunfight.
