Kupwara residents say PDD violates curtailment schedule

The residents of Kupwara district on Monday said the Power Development Department (PDD) was not adhering to curtailment schedule, even as the department says situation will worsen in the coming days owing to “increase in power load during winter”.

The inhabitants from metered as well as non-metered areas accused PDD of not providing them electricity as per schedule.

“We are now only getting 16 hours of electricity in a day. I don’t know being in a metered area why these long hours of curtailment. They (PDD) are increasing it day by day,” said Arshid Nabi, a local.

Similar woes were expressed by residents from other areas including Drugmulla, Main town Kupwara, Nagri, Lolab, Trehgam.

A resident of a non-metered area, Batergam, Rayees Ahmad said his area hardly gets electricity for eight hours a day.

The residents said despite paying electricity bills on time, PDD is making them to suffer.

When contacted, assistant executive engineer (AEE) PDD Kupwara Yasir Ahmad said curtailment is likely to increase in the coming days since the supply is less.
