Kupwara village without basic amenities, people suffer

The residents of Gufbal Shuloora area of Kupwara district Thursday said that their village was bereft of basic amenities, causing severe hardships to the inhabitants.

The residents said that they had been deprived of health services for decades.

   

Nazir Ahmad, a local said, “Our village comprises over 200 households and for a small ailment, patients are forced to visit the sub district hospital Kralpora, commuting several kilometers. We have been demanding a health sub centre in our locality so that patients get some respite. However, every dispensation turned deaf ears to our pleas.”

The residents said that they were being provided unfiltered and contaminated water from Nallah Kahmil while the concerned department was watching as a mute spectator.

“We are always apprehensive about our health because of the impure and contaminated water we consume. We, several times, approached the Jal Shakti department for the construction of a filtration plant but to no avail,” said a local.

A student of the area said that erratic power cuts are injustice with them as their studies get affected.

Locals also complained about decaying electric wooden poles posing a threat to the inhabitants.

They said that the unabated extraction of sand and gravel in Nallah Kahmil near Tilwanpora was posing a threat of flood whenever there is rainfall and demanded protection wall on both sides of the nallah to thwart any chance of flood.

The residents sought immediate intervention of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Imam-ud-Din for timely redress of their grievances.
