KU’s Kupwara campus to become functional this year

The Kashmir University (KU) administration has decided to make Kupwara satellite campus functional from the ongoing academic year.

To begin with, the varsity will start admission for twointegrated programmes – B.Sc Energy Studies and Physics at the campus.

   

The satellite campus was announced more than 12 years ago.”We have decided to start the admission process in the campus this year. Theadmission notification will be issued this month,” said Registrar KU, NisarAhmad Mir.

He said the courses like LLB, BBA and others will beintroduced in phased-manner in coming years.

 A team of officialsfrom KU will visit the campus on March 7 to finalize the modalities to startthe admissions process.

An official said it was earlier decided to introducespecialised program of Nanotechnology at Kupwara campus but the decision waslater shelved owing to inadequate infrastructure and facilities.

The work on the campus, which is spread over more than 500kanals of land, was going on for the past eight years.

It will be second such campus in north Kashmir after theVarsity’s Delina campus in Baramulla district which was made operational in2009.

The University has another satellite campus at Anantnagwhile as it lost two campuses in Leh and Kargil following bifurcation of theerstwhile satte of J&K on August 5.

The Registrar, KU said they have finalised a proposal forstrengthening the north and south campuses.

“We have got Rs 31 crore grants under RUSA for research andskill programmes in the varsity,” he said, adding the varsity will establishone each centre of excellence at Delina and Anantnag campuses and build newinfrastructure as well.
