KU’s Leh campus holds International Women’s Day

The Leh Satellite Campus of University of Kashmir (KU) observed International Women’s Day on Sunday.

The program was attended by students and women folk fromTaru and Phyang villages of Ladakh.

   

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Tsering Landol who was thechief guest on the occasion said more was needed to be done for genderequality. She emphasized that parents should treat sons and daughters equally.

In his presidential remarks, C Phunsog, Vice Chancellor,University of Ladakh highlighted said the Day was held globally to celebratesocial, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

“The day also marks acall to action for accelerating women’s equality. A recent UNICEF report saysthat the crimes against women are still prevalent and rising,” said the ViceChancellor. He emphasized that discrimination between boys and girls was nomore accepted.

Imteeaz Kacho, Registrar, University of Ladakh said genderequality was the need of the hour. He said collective action and sharedownership for driving gender parity was what makes International Women’s Daysuccessful.

 Spalzes Angmo,Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Ladakh said women were holding keypositions in the society.

Rigzin Angmo, Dy Commandant, CRPF, while highlighting theimportance of observing the Day said that women were in no way less than men.She stressed that it was hard work which can take the women to greater heights.

Dr Rohini, Dr Suhasini and Dr Angmo from ITBP impressed uponthe students that girl students were in no way less than the boys.

Tasleema Parveen, SHO,Leh impressed upon the students to be careful while using social mediaplatforms to strengthen gender equality.

Rector, Leh campus, Prof Farooq Ahmed Khan formally welcomedthe dignitaries and emphasized there was need to take initiatives where genderbias was no more in practice.
