KWT for basic amenities at Rakh-e-Arth

Kashmir Welfare Trust (KWT) has urged the authorities to provide basic amenities to flood victims of various areas which were rehabilitated by it at Gulshan-e-Nomaan colony at Rakh-e-Arth here. 

In a statement, chairman KWT Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo said thetrust completed the state-of-the-art project of 100 plus dwelling units for theflood victims of Chinar Bagh, Chuntkhul and Srinagar. 

   

“These flood victims who were living in miserable conditionare now living in their new dwelling units with dignity and honour atRakh-e-Arth. However, there are some issues which the dwellers are facing andneed urgent government attention,” he said.

“The drainage system is totally defunct. Besides seweragesystem connected to the households gets inundated frequently and emanatespungent smell. There a few houses which are yet to be connected to the seweragesystem. There are heaps of garbage in the colony and there is no arrangement oflifting the accumulated solid waste,” Wangnoo said.

He said the interior roads of the colony are yet to bemacadamised. “Even after a brief spell of rain, potholes make it difficultfor the inhabitants to move freely. Few electric poles installed at the siteare very close to the housing units which may cause problems in future to theinhabitants. They should be relocated at a fair distance from the dwellingunits to avoid any mishap,” he said.

Wangnoo said the colony needs a primary level school tocater the educational needs of the rehabilitated families and adjoiningcolonies. “We also request the Divisional Commissioner to direct LAWDAauthorities to desist from further filling of Rakh-e-Arth to save Hokersarwetland,” he added.
