Lach Mawer residents without drinking water supply

Residents of Lach Mawer area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday staged a protest against scarcity of drinking water in the area.

The protesters said that the area is suffering from shortage of drinking water for several months, blaming authorities of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for not being able to provide water supply to the area.

“Despite repeated requests to the concerned authorities, we are being forced to use contaminated water from filthy streams and nobody from the department is bothered to visit this area,” said Jabeena, a local resident.

She said that many during the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan have to ask neighbours to allow them fetch water from their wells.

“We are suffering immensely in this month for want of drinking water,” Jabeena rued.

Executive officer PHE Handwara Divison, Najeeb Ahmad, assured that water supply will be restored to the area on priority basis.

“We don’t want anyone to suffer, will look into the matter,” Ahmad said.
