‘Learn from Corona-hit Italy, stay indoors’

Urging people to learn lessons from Italy which has become epicenter of the Coronavirus, experts on Tuesday urged people to stay indoors and follow the advisories issued by the government in letter and spirit.

Almost 63,000 personshave tested positive for Covid-19 in the country so far. 

   

“We could witness similar tragedy in Kashmir if we don’tadhere to the health advisories and preventive measures recommended by WorldHealth Organization,” said Dr Suhail Naik.

He said Italy witnessed tragedy despite having one of thebest health infrastructures in the world. 

“If we don’t lock down to break the chain of infection, wecould also witness people dying,” he said.

He social distancing was also an important parameter tobreak the chain.

“Though the J&K administration is taking elaborative andcomprehensive measures in form of complete lockdown and quarantining suspectedpersons, unfortunately some people, unaware of consequences of COVID-19 spread,are defying prohibitory orders,” he said, adding the measures like isolatinginfected persons was the need of the hour.

Secretary Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Muhammad AkbarSofi, who looks after anti-COVID operations at the Corporation, said Italy lostrace against virus as people there ignored health advisories and defiedprohibitory orders.

“There are lessons for us from Italy,” Sofi said. “Theremust be no room for excuses, whatsoever.”
