Kashmir on Wednesday received light rains and snowfall, however the Srinagar-Jammu highway was open for one-way traffic. The weatherman has predicted another spell of wet weather from Friday.

MeT officials said that most of the higher reaches including ski-resort of Gulmarg received light snowfall while as plains witnessed light rains. The officials said that a Western Disturbance is approaching the state. “It is likely to become active on Friday and Saturday. Rain and snow are expected during this period," officials said adding that higher reaches will likely receive moderate snowfall and plains rains.

The Srinagar- Jammu highway was open for traffic despite rain on early Wednesday morning on Jawahar tunnel. “There was fresh snowfall at several places on the highway,” traffic officials said, adding the vehicles plied on roads. However there were traffic jams at some places due to bad condition of the road.

“Today the vehicles plied from Srinagar to Jammu and no vehicle, including security force convoy, was allowed from opposite direction on the highway,” officials said adding that on Thursday traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar.

MeT officials said that because of cloud cover minimum temperatures improved appreciably in the state on Wednesday. They said minimum temperature were 5.6 in Srinagar while it was 1.4 in Pahalgam and minus 2.4 in Gulmarg.

Kargil town in the Ladakh region was the coldest at minus 9 followed by Leh at minus 4.7 degrees Celsius.
