Lok Janshakti Party national spokesperson Sanjay Saraf Wednesday strongly condemned the alleged rape incident in Bandipora and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprit.
Addressing media persons at Kashmir Press Club here, Saraf called for fast-track trial to provide justice to the victim and her family.
“This dastardly and shameful incident is a slur on the face of humanity. Kashmir is the place known as Peervir (place of priests and saints). This shameful incident has shocked the collective conscious of people,” he said.
He said earlier reports of such incidents from other states shocked the people in Kashmir. “This shameful incident in Kashmir is intolerable, unacceptable. It is also time for us to go for collective introspection,” he said.
Saraf has appealed to the people of the Kashmir to maintain calm and defeat every attempt aimed to give the incident a sectarian twist.
Saraf alleged that some outsiders and some local traders are bringing bad name to Kashmiri Muslims by selling the land belonging to temples.
“A piece of land belonging to Barbarshah temple was given on lease which ended in 2003. However, this piece of land was sold by a few persons for Rs 18.25 crore. This sale deed was executed despite status quo granted by the High Court on the land in question,” he said. He demanded “high level probe” in the matter.
