LMD penalises 783 erring traders in May

Legal Metrology Department has collected Rs 18.66 lakh from 783 erring traders during the month of May.

An statement issued by the department said, on theinstructions of Controller Legal Metrology, Ali Afsar Khan, the extensivemarket inspections were conducted during the month of May in order to prevent unfair trade practices in the market.

   

The main focus of the department was essential commodities.The dept conducted 5761 inspections in the state during which 783 erringtraders were booked for indulging in over-charging on pre-packaged commodities,short -weighments, use of unstamped weights and measures, offering  for sale the packed products without properlabelling.

The department realised a compounding fee of Rs 18.66 lakhfrom the erring traders. In addition to this, the inspectors standardised about8000 commercial weights and measures of traders for which a stamping fee of Rs20.12 lakh was collected
