LOCALS FOIL SHRINE ABLAZE ATTEMPT IN ISLAMABAD

Islamabad (Anantnag), Oct 12: Unidentified persons tried to torch a revered Sufi shrine at Dabrun village in this south Kashmir district early Friday morning.
 Witnesses said that some unidentified miscreants tried to set ablaze the shrine of Hazrat Hyder Baba Reshi (RA) at Dabran village, located barely 3 Kilometers away from Islamabad town before the dawn prayers.
  “A major tragedy was averted by the timely intervention of the locals however the matting of the shrine was completely gutted in the inferno,” witnesses said.
  “We came to know about the incident after an old lady  who had gone to offer pre-dawn prayers in the shrine raised an alarm as soon as she saw the flames,” said the villagers.They said people rushed to the shrine with buckets of water and doused the flames.   
 A police spokesman said that some miscreants tried to set ablaze the shrine but did not succeed in their ill intentions. “The incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning. The district police have registered a case in this regard and further investigation is going on,” he said.
 He said that an (FIR No. 313 / 2012 under section 436 and 292 of the RPC in Police station Sadder,  Islamabad (Anantnag) has been registered and the police have initiated a manhunt in the area to nab the miscreants.
 Meanwhile, senior police and district administration officials visited the Shrine today and assured the people of action against the culprits.
 Umat-I-Islami Chairman and Mirwaiz South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmad Yasir expressed grief over the incident and termed it as the handiwork of those who want to divide Muslims in Kashmir.
 “The incident is an attempt to create wedge among the Muslims of Kashmir,” said Yasir.
 He said that government has failed to protect the shrines and religious places in Kashmir and as such people should themselves rise to the occasion and safeguard them.
 The shrine houses the relics of Baba Hyder Reshi (RA) popularly known as Harda Reshi or Reshi Molu. However, the grave of Baba Reshi is enshrined in another Shrine at Reshi Bazar area of Islamabad town.  People belonging to different religions visit the site to pay their respect to Ziyarat Baba Hyder Reshi. During the anniversary of the saint, pilgrims and locals avoid eating meat for one week.
