Locals retrieve teenager’s body from Nallah Madumati in Bandipora

Local residents retrieved the body of a drowned teenager from Nallah Madumati in Kaloosa area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district last night.

An official said Danish Manzoor Wani son of Manzoor AhmadWani had drowned in Nallah Madumati while taking a bath on Monday evening.

   

He said that though police and local administration hadroped in Marcos commandos of Navy but they couldn’t help as the water wasflowing at a high speed.

“They wanted to call off the rescue operation at midnightafter failing to spot the teenager’s body and said that they would go into thewater at the first light of the day as it would be risky at midnight. However,locals went ahead of their own with the help of fire and emergency department,”he said.

He said that three local men – Javid Ahmad Dar, Inam ul Haqand Abdul Hameed – went into gushing waters and retrieved the body. In 1992,Javid had rescued two women from Nallah Madumati near Nathpora village whenfloods had hit the area.

During the September 2014 floods, Javid and Inam had rescuedfour persons from Bemina area of Srinagar as well.
