Lolab resident planning to join militancy held with grenade: Kashmir Police

A Kupwara resident planning to join militancy was held with a grenade during checking at a naka on Friday, police said.

Kupwara police on a credible input arrested an individual and recovered incriminating materials including ammunition from his possession, said a police spokesman, in a statement.

   

He said Mohd Aslam Beigh, son of Nazir Ahmad Beigh of Maidanpora Lolab was detained at a checkpoint, adding that a grenade and other incriminating material was seized from his possession.

“The individual has been taken into custody and preliminary investigation suggests that the individual was planning to join a militant outfit, and along with other militants was planning an attack in Kupwara. 

Initial investigation, he said, revealed that he was motivated to turn to militancy through social media by entities based in Pakistan.

A case FIR No. 6/2019 under relevant sections has been registered in P/S Kupwara in this matter, he said.
