Lt Gen Ranbir Singh reviews security situation in North Kashmir

SNorthern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh Wednesday reviewed security situation and counter-terrorism operations in North Kashmir, army officials said.

“Lt Gen Singh visited the hinterland units, where hereviewed the prevailing security situation and strategy for counter-terroristoperations in North Kashmir,” they said. Theofficials said the army commander also interacted with senior dignitaries atBadamiBagh Cantonment here.

   

“Later in the day, he also visited 144 Battalion ofCentral Reserve Police deployed in Dal Lake. He appreciated the round the clockefforts of paramilitary troops and their teamwork with the army and police tomaintain peace and tranquillity in the valley,” they added.

Lt Gen Singh also presidedover the Silver Jubilee raising day of 20 Rashtriya Rifles (DOGRA) unit atBadamibagh here, defence spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.

Raised on May 1, 1994 inVaranasi, with Col V P Singh as its first Commanding Officer, the unit hasparticipated in various counter-insurgency, counter-terrorist operations andhigh altitude areas in the northern and eastern theatres, the spokespersonsaid.

Lt Gen Singh, who is alsoColonel of the DOGRA Regiment and DOGRA SCOUTS, addressed a special’SainikSammelan’. “I salute and pay homage to the martyrs for having madethe supreme sacrifice in line of duty in service of the unit, regiment, IndianArmy and the nation,” the army commander said.

Lt Gen Singh appreciated the dedication and hardwork of allranks, past and present, in their brave endeavour to safeguard the nation’sborders while operating in hostile terrain and challenging conditions.
