A man attempted suicide by slitting his arm inside a courtroom here today.
An official said that the man identified as Mushtaq AhmadReshi of Nesbal Sumbal inflicted a cut his left arm inside the courtroom ofPrincipal District and Sessions Judge while case proceedings were going.
“His son is lodged at central jail Srinagar for the offenseshe has been charged with. While proceedings of the case were on Reshi slit hisleft arm with a blade and blood started oozing out,” the official said.
He said that Reshi was shifted to Bandipora hospital fortreatment from where he was referred to SKIMS Soura in a critical condition.
Police have taken cognizance and registered a case FIR No.45/2019 under section 309 RPC in police station Bandipora.
“Further investigation has been taken up,” the officialsaid.

His son was arrested on 23 June last year and till date. The case was listed for hearing prosecutionevidence on Tuesday before Principal District and Sessions judge Bandipora.Advocate Shafeeq Ahmad Bhat who was representing the accused (whose fatherattempted suicide) said that the behaviour of the man in the open courtroom wastotally uncalled for but said “it needs introspection as to why he tookthis extreme step.”
