A 30-year-old man was killed and at least four others injured after their vehicle met with an accident in Sogam area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday.

The vehicle (Matador) bearing registration number JK01F-4749 overturned and fell down in paddy fields after it skidded off the road near Higher Secondary School, Sogam, GNS news agency reported.

The vehicle was hired by locals for sightseeing on Eid day, it said.

As the vehicle turned turtle, one of the travelers fell down and came under the vehicle. Later, a JCB was called and the youth was removed from the vehicle and taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Station House Officer (SHO), Sogam, Mohammad Rafiq confirmed the death of the person in the mishap.

"A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations were taken up," the officer said.
