MAY DAY| Dr Farooq salutes workers’ determination, hard work

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah in his message on Labour Day (May Day) saluted the determination and hard work of countless workers who play a big role in the development of the state, saying that “the party will continue to work for the welfare of fixed income groups and daily wagers including artisans.”

Appreciating the toil of workers from organized as well anunorganized sector, Dr Farooq, in a statement said when we celebrate the May 1as international labour day around the globe, the indigenous struggle of ourown people at Zaldagar, and silk factory is often forgotten.

   

“I take this opportunity and pay glowing tributes to themartyrs of Zaldagar massacre. We as a highly spirited community should committo memory the sacrifices of our artisans at Zaldagar and Silk factory. Theepisodes of Zaldagar, Silk factory agitation acted as a precursor to themovement against the then autocratic regime initiated by Sher-e Kashmir SheikhMuhammad Abdullah,” Dr Farooq said. “The Naya Kashmir document of our partyenvisaged established principles of labour laws including the right to workaccording to the individual capacity”.

Dr. Farooq said that the NC will continue to lend helpinghand to the artisan community of the state.

“Today we see many of our artisans switching theirprofessions in wake of the discontent due to the implementation of GST by theformer BJP-PDP government. Our party is conscious of the plight of ourartisans, whose golden hands have brought laurels to our state across theglobe,” Dr Farooq said. “Once in power, the party with Omar Abdullah in the vanguardof it will make amends to the imprudent anti artisan anti worker policies offormer PDP-BJP coalition”.

He said that the NC has always been a benefactor of smallmarginalized traders, daily wagers, fixed income groups, and other workers ofboth organized and unorganized class. “We will continue with this cherishedpredisposition of ours,” Dr Farooq said.
