National Conference General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Sunday claimed that Mehbooba Mufti’s recent statement on protecting the state’s identity is a travesty.
“The undertakings of Mehbooba on the protection of state’s identity are scornful. We didn’t see her protect the identity when she rolled back the order of hoisting state flag on government vehicles,” Sagar said while taking a dig at the Peoples Democratic Party President.
“Why didn’t she (Mehbooba) protect the unique identity of our state when it was questioned by her former coalition partner in the Supreme Court?” he asked, stating that Mehbooba stands “no chance to absolve her from the torments she unleashed on the people of Kashmir”.
Sagar alleged, “The detailed response of the state government to be filed in the Supreme Court on the issue of Article 35-A never got her (Mehbooba’s) approval. She had shelved it to save her government. Moreover, no gimmickry can help her gain the confidence of people. She has lost it for all times. If people had trusted her to defend the state’s identity, she wouldn’t have come third in the parliament elections.”
