Meteorological department Thursday forecast rain and snow over the weekend at isolated places in the mountains as temperatures increased marginally amid an ongoing cold wave across Kashmir.

MeT officials said a feeble Western Disturbance has approached Jammu and Kashmir recently.

“With this, we expect isolated rain activities over Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 to 48 hours. Although, any moderate or heavy rain and snowfall activity is ruled out as of now,” they said.

“However, an active Western Disturbance is expected to reach Jammu and Kashmir around December 9 which may give light to moderate rain and snow at many places over both the states of Jammu and Kashmir.”

In Srinagar, officials said the mercury settled at minus 2.6 degree Celsius Wednesday night and the city had recorded the lowest this season two nights back when temperature dipped to minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.
