Militant hideout busted in Shopian

Shopian, Mar 6: A militants’ hideout was busted by government forces during a cordon and search operation in Kungoo village of Shopian district on Wednesday.

A police official said that a joint team of army, special operations group of J&K police and CRPF men laid a siege around Kungoo after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area. During the searches lasting five hours, the forces found the hideout in an apple orchard.

Shopian senior superintendent of police Sandeep Kumar Choudary said “substantial incriminating material” and other items were recovered from the hiding place.

Meanwhile, a police official said that Jahangir Alam, a security guard at J&K Bank’s Kundalan branch reported with police station Shopian that his 12 bore rifle went missing from the branch last night. The official said that police registered a case and started investigations.
