Militants attacked a police picket guarding the former National Conference lawmaker in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
A police official said that militants fired upon the police picket set up in the premises of the residence Showkat Showkat Ahmad Ganie at Chitragam village. “Policemen returned the fire, forcing the militants to flee from the spot” the official said, adding that no loss of life or injuries were caused.
Meanwhile, Ganie told Greater Kashmir that the attack took place around 4:30 am and was possibly a weapon snatching bid.
It may be recalled that on July 26, militants had barged into the residence of former Congress leader in Shopian and snatched four rifles from the policemen guarding him.
