Militants and government forces on Wednesday evening exchanged fire at Badrapayeen village of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A police official said that militants fired indiscriminately upon a patrolling party of Army’s 32 RR. “The army retaliated. A cordon and search operation has been launched in the area,” said the official, adding the forces had information about presence of militants in the area.
Another official said reinforcement has been rushed to the area and lights have been installed to prevent the militants from escaping, “The exchange of fire continued for few minutes. The entire area has been cordoned off,” the official added. GKNN
