Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday said that the three militants killed in a gunfight in Radbugh village of Budgam district rejected the offer to surrender.

A spokesman said that Budgam police along with 2 RR launched a cordon and search operation in Redbug area in the jurisdiction of Police Station Magam after specific inputs about the presence of militants.

“During the search operation, militants fired upon the joint search party. The militants were asked to surrender through their family members but they denied and fired indiscriminately. The fire was retaliated, triggering an encounter,” he said.

Three militants affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were killed in the gunfight that also left two security personnel injured, said the spokesman.

He identified the slain militants as Aaqib Gul, son of Ghulam-ud-din Dar, resident of Gooripora Sanatnagar, Budgam; Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, son of  Wali Mohammad Sheikh resident of Churpora Beerwah and Sajad Ahmad Gilkar, son of Nazir Ahmad resident of Malaratha  Nowhatta, Srinagar.

“They were involved in recent weapon snatching incidents occurred in the south and central Kashmir. They were also involved in anti-national activities, unlawful activities, damaging of government property and stone pelting incidents,” said the spokesman.

“Sajad Gilkar played key role in the murder of  DySP Mohammad Ayoub Pandith of Security Wing, who was lynched to death at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, Srinagar. After the incident he went underground and joined HM militant ranks,” said the spokesman.
