Mirwaiz pays tributes to King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz

Mirwaiz said King Abdullah was instrumental in creation of the Contact Group on Kashmir of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC).

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has paid rich tributes to Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz who passed away on Friday saying “the ongoing movement for right to self-determination in Kashmir has lost a strong supporter.”

Mirwaiz said King Abdullah was instrumental in creation of the Contact Group on Kashmir of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC).

“King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto worked hard to extend support to Kashmir issue by creating the Contact Group on Kashmir. Infact King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz invited me to the OIC’s special session in Casablanca, Morocco in 1995. I was the first Kashmir separatist leader to attend the session,” Mirwaiz said.

Mirwaiz said he had last met the King during the OIC conference in Mecca in 2012. “King Abdullah supported Kashmir’s freedom movement in every forum. With his demise, Kashmir movement has lost a strong supporter,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the instructions of Mirwaiz, funeral prayers in absentia funeral prayers were held for King Abdullah at historic Jamia Masjid here. On the occasion, a large number of people prayed for peace to the deceased soul.
