Mirwaiz urges UN to send team to Kashmir to assess ground situation

Terming the human rights situation in Kashmir as “grim”, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday urged the United Nations to take note of ground situation in Kashmir by sending a high level team to the Valley.

“We have already welcomed the UNHRC report on human rights situation in Kashmir but it is time that a team be sent to Kashmir for spot inspection of the situation,” he said while addressing Friday gathering at the historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar.

Mirwaiz, who was released from house detention an hour before Friday prayers, also said that it was highly condemnable that all the resistance leadership has been caged ahead of the world rights day and that nocturnal raids were being conducted on activists while candle light vigil too was being disallowed.

Soon after the congregational prayers concluded, the Mirwaiz led a protest against the “rising graph” of rights violations in Kashmir outside Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
