NC mulls to file Habeas Corpus petition on 3 missing Rajouri youth

National Conference Tuesday expressed concern over disappearance of three Rajouri youths, saying the incident has caused distress and anguish in the entire belt.

In a joint statement, senior party leaders led by Provincial President, Devender Singh Rana urged the administration to mobilize the police for tracing the missing boys earnestly and let their families know about their welfare and whereabouts.

“The leaders took note of various versions making rounds and hoped the police will come up with the facts to dispel all the apprehensions. They also constituted a two member team of the party functionaries, comprising Advocate Choudhry Liaqat and Adv Muzaffar Ahmed Khan, to explore all the legal options and if need be file a Habeas Corpus petition in the High Court about disappearance of the missing youth,” said the statement.

They expressed solidarity with the families of the disappeared persons and assured them that every possible step will be taken to have their whereabouts by the administration.

Meanwhile, the party MPs demanded a time-bound and impartial probe into Shopian encounter amid report that the slain persons were three civilians from Rajouri.

In a joint statement, MPs, Muhammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi while expressing concern over the claims of the family of the deceased youth said the statements made by the family were important in unraveling the truth behind the whole incident and therefore a thorough, independent and time bound probe was needed.

The MPs said if what the family was claiming is true then the forbearance towards such “extra judicial killings” in a democratic country like India was shocking and reflective of the culture of impunity.

“The entire incident stands mystified due to the diverse versions of the security forces and families of the missing youth. It is highly excruciating to see innocent people losing their precious lives and their blood being spilled. Only an impartial and time-bound inquiry into the matter will reveal the circumstances revolving around the three missing boys,” the MPs said.
