NC says hopeful of Sagar’s early release

National Conference on Friday said it was hopeful that the senior party leader Ali Muhammad Sagar who is under detention since August 5, would be released, after his son move the High Court, challenging his father’s detention.

“We have always maintained that Sagar sahib’s detention isundemocratic.  Having him in detention isdisrespectful to people whom he has represented over, not only in hisconstituency but across Jammu and Kashmir. When the world is going throughworst health crisis, which requires social distancing and proper sanitation,his continued incarceration has added to the concerns of his family and wellwishers,” said the party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar.

   

He said Sagar, who is party General Secretary, has somepre-existing health issues, making him more vulnerable to COVID19. “His familyhas to go through tough times to meet him. Seeing no light at the end oftunnel, they chose to knock the door of High Court,” Imran said. “We are surethat the High Court will provide succor to the family.” Sagar is underdetention since August 5 last year. Along with more than three dozenpoliticians, Sagar was booked under the PSA on February 5.
