NET exam centres set up for all Kashmiri aspirants within Valley: DG NTA

Following days of hue and cry in Kashmir, National Testing Agency (NTA) has established additional centres in the Valley for the students appearing in National Eligibility Test (NET) who were earlier allocated the centres outside.

The Kashmiri students, whose centre was notified outside theValley, were complaining that they couldn’t bear the expenditures and theprevailing heat wave.

Following a report in Greater Kashmir about the students’concerns, the director general of NTA Vineet Joshi had said that additionalexam centres will be notified within Kashmir to accommodate all the NETaspirants.

Meanwhile, the NET aspirants have appealed the NTAauthorities for notifying adequate exam centres in Kashmir for any nationallevel competitive exams so that the students are not put to unnecessarytrouble.

“Our centres have been shifted back to the Valley afterthere was a hue and cry from students. NTA should understand the issue andshould avoid notifying our exam centres outside the valley,” said Adil Rather,a NET aspirant from Kupwara.

More than 300 aspirants were supposed to travel out ofKashmir for the NET exam scheduled between June 20 and 28.

“Now we have accommodated students in Kashmir. The matterhas been resolved,” Joshi of NTA said.

“But at times we don’t get the space in institutes where wewant to set up the centres. The space remains occupied due to clash with otherexams at these places or institutes.”

The director general of NTA however acknowledged thesensitivities of the issue wherein the aspirants particularly the femalestudents have to face various problems while moving outside Kashmir for writingtheir exams.

“We understand that students face problems once their examcentres are notified outside Valley. They have to manage extra burden ofexpenditure.  But we will ensure that thestudents don’t face such issues in future,” Joshi said.
