NIA arrests Awantipora youth in grenade attack case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested Amir Nazir Mir son of Nazir Ahmed of Dadsara in Pulwama district in connection with a grenade attack on a police station in Maksudan, Punjab, in 2018.

An NIA spokesman said that on 14 September 2018, fourgrenades were hurled at the police station, injuring a policeman. The NIA,which took over the investigation of the case from the police, said the attackwas the handiwork of Kashmir-based militant outfit Ansar Ghazawat-ul-Hind (AGH).

   

The spokesman said that two youths—Fazil Bashir Pinchoo sonof Bashir Ahmed Pinchoo of Ghatmohalla, Awantipora, Pulwama and Shahid Qayoomson of Abdul Qayoom of Vill Kanjinag, Awantipora—had been arrested in this caseearlier. Both had pursuing engineering from St. Soldier Group of Colleges,Jalandhar.

The spokesman said that two other accused in this case—RaufAhmed Mir and Umar Ramzan, both residents of Dadsara, were killed in anencounter with forces on 22 December 2018.

Amir Nazir, the spokesman added, is a key accused as heprocured and facilitated delivery of four grenades used in the attack on thedirections of AGH chief Zakir Musa. He was the link between the arrestedaccused and Musa, he added.

The spokesman said Amir has been taken on transit remand sothat he could be presented before the special NIA Court Mohali for obtaininghis custody for interrogation.
