NIA court discharges Kashmiri student in Jalandhar attack case

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has failed to produce evidence against a Kashmiri student in Jalandhar attack case, prompting the court to release him.

Danish Rehman Sofi was arrested in October last year for hisalleged involvement in Jalandhar attack case.

   

“The NIA court in Mohali released Danish today after thepremier investigating agency failed to produce any evidence against him in thecourt,” Tribune reported on Tuesday.

Reportedly, the Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir police hadclaimed to have busted a militant module in Jalandhar in October 2018 byarresting some Kashmiri students, who were allegedly linked to the Al-Qaidaoffshoot Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH).

The police had also claimed to have recovered two weapons,including an assault rifle, and some explosives from their possession.

The remaining students who were arrested included YusufRafiq Bhatt, Zahid Gulzar, Mohammed Idris Shah alias Nadeem and Sohail AhmedBhatt.

The students were nabbed from the hostel of an engineeringinstitute at Shahpur, Jalandhar.
