NIA takes custody of Pulwama youth from Delhi police

NIA on Friday arrested Sajjad Ahmed Khan, 26, of Handoora, J&K, in case RC number 08/2019/NIA/DLI. He was booked under section120B and 121A of IPC and sections 17, 18, 18A, 18B, 20, 38 and 39 of UAPA.

NIA spokesman said the case pertains to a “criminalconspiracy” by top leadership of JeM based in Pakistan to strengthen base ofJeM in India, “by recruiting persons for carrying out terrorist acts in India”.

   

In furtherance of this criminal conspiracy, he said, “SajjadAhmed Khan was specially sent to Delhi to set up hideouts in Delhi NCR. Thiswas done to select specific targets and also to radicalize and recruit Muslimyouths to further terror activities,” he added.

The spokesman said the accused Khan was arrested by theSpecial Cell, Delhi Police on 21.03.2019 and produced in Special NIA Court,Delhi on 22.3.2019.

The NIA filed a petition before Special NIA Court, PatialaHouse, New Delhi for seeking his custody for his detailed interrogation tounearth the whole conspiracy, he said.

The NIA Special Court has granted 8 days’ police remand ofKhan up to 29.03.2019.

Earlier, the Special Cell of Delhi Police had claimed tohave arrested Khan near Lal Quila red light in New Delhi.

Pramod Singh Kushwah, DCP Special Cell, had said in astatement that last night they arrested Sajjad Ahmed Khan, 27, son of GhulamNabi Khan of Vill Handoora, Tral in Pulwama district.

Singh said Khan was suspected to be involved in theconspiracy of Pulwama militant attacks.

“Khan was staying under the guise of a Shawl vendor,” theDCP said.

Records available with Jammu and Kashmir police suggest that Khan had gone to Delhi in November 2018.

Two brothers of Khan, namely Ishfaq Khan and Showkat Khan were JEM militants who got killed during encounter in Tral area in April and October 2018. “His role is being investigated,” a senior J&K police officer told Greater Kashmir adding that J&K police is not involved in the arrest of Khan. “Things will be clear soon.”
