NIT Faculty Association joins chorus on ‘cooling period’, favours revocation

The Faculty Association of the  National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has also pressed for revocation of the cooling period for the NIT graduates.

The association is mobilising heads of various departmentsand other faculty members to pursue the case in the interest of the students.

   

“The institute is facing lot of criticism over the issue ofcooling period rider in appointments. The rider should be removed for thebenefit of the students,” said one of the faculty members at NIT.

Also, the Faculty Association of NIT Srinagar (FANITS) hasaccused the administration for delaying deliberations over the issue which istelling upon the career of students.

Sources say the issue was discussed in the last senatemeeting and where it was resolved that it will be sent to the AdvisoryCommittee on Faculty Recruitment (ACOFAR) for deliberation and subsequentrecommendation to a competent authority.

“Unfortunately no such resolution came up in the minutes ofthe meeting. This simply means that the administration is deliberately delayingthe issue,” a source in NIT said.

He added that the president FANITS had raised the issue withdirector NIT who had assured to issue a corrigendum but that also was not donedue to which the matter could not be referred to ACOFAR so far.

The president FANITS in his letter to some heads of thedepartments has stated that he was approached by various faculty members of NITto discuss the issue at association level. In the letter, the president hassought recommendations from HoDs over the matter.

“Before the matter is discussed in the executive committeeof FANITS I would be grateful if you can give your remarks in the matter,”reads a letter written to the head of mathematics department.

The aspirants affected by the cooling period rule say itsunfair to them, as the rider prefers candidates from other institutions takingthe jobs at NIT.

Director NIT Rakesh Sehgal said the centrally-fundedinstitute was following rules set by MHRD.

“If MHRD relaxes this rule then we can also go aheadaccordingly,” Sehgal said.

“Those who are not aware about the rules should avoidmaking comments on such issues,” Sehgal said.
