NIT’s PG Department of Physics commemorates National Science day

The post graduate department of Physics at National Institute of technology (NIT) Srinagar celebrated National Science day.

On the occasion, a science quiz was also held for graduate and post-graduate students on National level, wherein around 427 students of different institutions across the country participated.

   

The event started with a welcome address by coordinator M.Sc. Physics Programme Dr M. A. Shah who enlightened the participants with the importance of Prof. C. V. Raman and how he modified the research approach for everyone across the world.

Dean Research and Consultancy, Prof G A Harmain and the in-charge director inaugurated the event.

Head of Physics Department Dr Prince A Ganai delivered his appreciation to the students from different fields and Prof S Rubab, the convener of the event motivated the participants to promote science at global level.

The event was also joined by director Indian Meteorological department Dr. Sonam Lotus. He delivered his talk on how science plays an important role in everyone’s life. He said everyone should be ready with a solution for the coming problems in future.

The convener of the event Prof. Tariq Ahamd Chalkoo from Government Degree College (GDC), Baramulla, inspired the audience with the story of Prof. C V Raman, his childhood, love for physics and giving the world Raman Effect for which he was also awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.

At the end, the winners of the quiz were felicitated as well. The first position was shared by two participants- Bajrang Saini from Kurukshetra University and Kishalay Raj from BIT Mesra Ranchi. Second position was won by Humairah Tabasum from NIT Srinagar and the 3rd position was shared by two participants- Devanshi from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University and Janhavi Lalit Manjule from Matoshri College of Engineering.
