No night-long prayers in mosques, shrines in Kashmir

No night-long prayers were held on Shab-e-Meraj in any major mosque or shrine in Kashmir in view of Coronavirus threat.

Shab-e-Meraj is observed on 27th of Rajab of Islamic lunarcalendar every year. Every year, the biggest congregational on this occasionwas traditionally witnessed at revered Hazratbal shrine here where thousands ofdevotees would assemble. However, no such observation was held at the shrinethis year.

   

Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Wakf Board had Saturday announcedsuspension of celebrations and congregational prayers on Shab-e-Meraj in viewof threat of the contagious Coronavirus.

Secretary Wakf Board, Showkat Beigh said no celebrations ornight-long prayers were held at shrines and mosques affiliated with the WakafBoard.

The Board has also suspended regular prayers in shrines,mosques affiliated to it.

“There will be no displaying of the holy relic also which asper tradition was done on the next day and Friday following Shab-e-Meraj atHazratbal shrine,” he said.

“It is our collective responsibility to control the virus byfollowing preventive measures and health advisories being issued by theauthorities from time to time,” Beigh said while thanking the devotees foradhering to the Wakf Board directions.

Pertinently, the MutahidaMajlis-e-Ulema Jammu and Kashmir had also issued similar advisory to people.

J&K’s Grand Mufti Nisar-ul-Islam had Saturday asked thepeople to avoid religious gatherings and other ceremonies including weddingsand condolence meetings.
