No role in Hajin youth beheading, says Lashkar

The Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) on Saturday denied involvement in killing of a Bandipora youth and said the outfit will investigate the incident and “bring culprits to justice”.

The beheaded body of 24-year-old youth Manzoor Ahmed Bhat was recovered from an orchard in Hajin, a day after he was abducted by three gunmen from his house.

“It is such a shameful and inhumane act that deserves more than mere condemnation. Lashkar-e-Taiba has always kept public posted about its activities. We have never subjected wrongdoers to such a punishment but have exposed them in public,” Lashkar chief Mehmood Shah was quoted as saying by the spokesperson Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi, in a statement issued today.

The outfit has said it will investigate the matter and bring perpetrators  to justice.

“We have no involvement in this murder. The people of Hajin love Jihad and Mujahideen. The truth of the murder will be exposed very soon,” the statement said. “We have always exposed the people involved in wrongdoing to public instead of punishing them.”

In a statement police had blamed the LeT for the abduction and killing.

The killing had evoked condemnation from Hurriyat-M led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
