Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said on Saturday that only tripartite talks could prove conclusive and result oriented for resolving Kashmir issue.

“We are not averse to negotiations, however, we believe and we are of this firm opinion that only tripartite talks can prove conclusive and result oriented and we assign top priority to prestige and dignity of our nation and we have enough talent to plead our case,” a spokesman of the Hurriyat, in a statement today, quoted Geelani as having said while addressing the meeting of the amalgam’s executive council.

He said, “Peace, stability and development of entire South Asia are connected with the resolution of Kashmir issue. And for the peace and development of the region, 15 million people of entire Jammu and Kashmir have to decide their future political destination.”

“During the meeting, the Hurriyat leaders held detailed deliberations on the ongoing political situation, movement and various organisational matters. The leaders held that conglomerate is not averse to dialogue and has always stressed for meaningful talks for the lasting resolution of Kashmir issue,” the spokesman said.

“The congenial and conducive situation is must for resolving the vexed Kashmir issue. India was morally duty-bound to create conducive situation for this purpose. There is no let-up in suppression and oppression, unabated arrests of youth and leadership, prolonging detention on one pretext or the other, character assassination through media channels and NIA. In such situations the result oriented dialogue is not possible,” he said, adding that the members condemned the arrest of Hurriyat chief spokesman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar.
