School education department on Wednesday ordered that all 1st and 2nd term examinations from 5th to 7th classes will be conducted by the respective schools from the current academic session.
The order in this regard was issued by secretary school education department Rigzin Sampheal.
There will, however, be common question paper prescribed by respective district institute of education and training (DIET), the order says.
As per the order, the 1st and 2nd term examinations of classes 8th and 9th will be conducted by the state institute of education (SIE) for government schools as per past practice.
The decision to authorise the schools for conducting term 1st and 2nd exams at school level was taken while reviewing “no detention” policy up to elementary level. The formal order was issued today.
Pertinently, the government last year had abolished the practice of holding term 1st and term 2nd examinations for the students of the government schools at the school level. The exams were conducted with external evaluation system monitored by DIETs in every district and were working under supervision of SIE.
Greater Kashmir in July had reported that the authorities concerned had failed to maintain the essence of the new practice introduced by the department.
This year the term 1st exams in government schools from classes 5th to 7th commenced from June 25 and were supposed to culminate on July 02. However, holding exams at cluster level disrupted the class work in schools for almost a month as exams got extended due to frequent postponement of papers.
The class work in schools from 5th to 9th classes was suspended in third week of June after the date sheet for term 1st exams was notified and remained effected for more than a month.
After Greater Kashmir report, directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) on July 23 had sent a communication of the administrative department to review the decision.
