Omar Abdullah: Whatever happened to Geelani’s Azadi?

Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday received support from an unexpected quarter when former chief minister Omar Abdullah took a jibe at the state government over disallowing him from offering funeral prayers in absentia for militants and civilians killed in south Kashmir’s Shopian.

Omar , in whose tenure Geelani was also barred from carrying out political activities, posted a picture of police disallowing the Hurriyat (G) chairman from taking part in programme, on micro-blogging website Twitter.

“Why? I thought the state government had announced that he had been granted “azadi”, what happened?,” wrote Omar on Twitter.

Meanwhile, National Conference has expressed profound grief over the situation in Kashmir and extended their condolences to the families of civilians killed in Shopian.

The party wrote on its Twitter handle: “Dr. Farooq Abdullah, @OmarAbdullah express profound grief over the continued deterioration of the situation in Kashmir and extend their heartfelt condolences to the families of those civilians who have lost their lives in the ensuing turmoil”.
