Ghulam Nabi Azad brought speedy development in J&K: Rahul Gandhi

Lolab, Nov 25: Congress vice-president and star campaigner Rahul Gandhi Tuesday alleged that due to some deficiencies and lackadaisical approach, the coalition government led by Omar Abdullah couldn’t deliver its best and development received a setback in JK.
“In the tenure of Ghulam Nabi Azad as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir there was speedy and equitable development of all the three regions of the state. But during the NC-led coalition government, what we had expected to do in six years couldn’t happen because of the laziness of the government,” Rahul said at a rally in Lolab, Kupwara.
“I am personally sad that Food Security Bill and several other UPA programmes were not implemented by our collation partner,” he added.
Congress brought Food Security Bill in the state to ensure food for all but due to lethargic approach of our coalition partner National Conference, it could not be implemented in the state though all other states of the country fully implemented it,” Rahul lamented.
He urged people to vote Congress to majority so that all these programmes are fully implemented in the state.
Highlighting the steps taken by UPA government for development of Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul said it was Congress which constructed 11 km long Banihal-Pirpanchal tunnel, railway line, Mughal Road to connect Rajouri and Poonch with Kashmir with a cost of Rs 650 crores, allotted 9 thousand corers for four-lanning of Jammu-Srinagar highway, and 9 thousand crores were sanctioned for Z-Morh-Zojilla tunnel.
“We brought Udaan, Himayat, Umeed, MGNREGA in the state,” he said.
Claiming that only Congress can bring ‘Achey Din’ (good times) to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi today slammed BJP Government in New Delhi for its ‘failure’ to provide relief to flood victims in the state.
“The central government has failed in providing relief to the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir as the relief package announced by Prime Minister is nowhere in sight,” Rahul said while addressing an election rally in border town of Poonch.
Rahul Gandhi said that only Congress can bring ‘Achey Din’ in the state and the difference would be visible if the party was voted to power in the state.
Rahul said that after the recent floods in the state, the affected people have not been provided required relief.
“The Rs 6500 crore relief package announced by Prime Minister is still on papers and the affected people are not getting any benefit,” he said.
Comparing the rehabilitation of flood victims in Uttarakhand with that of Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul said that flood victims of Uttarakhand were provided relief and rehabilitated on war footing but the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir are still waiting for relief.
He also said that during the 10-year tenure of UPA government, ‘militancy was eradicated from the state and people are now living in an atmosphere of peace.’
“Congress undertook all the desired steps and managed to strengthen the tourism sector and bring peace in the state,” he claimed.
