Former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti Saturday expressed pain and anguish after a woman was “forced to deliver” a child on a road in Srinagar.
The National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah said, he hoped the administration led by governor Satya Pal Malik would take immediate take action in the tragic case.
“I hope the state functionaries working under the command of @jandkgovernor take immediate action in this tragic case,” Omar wrote on Twitter.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti while calling the incident as heart wrenching expressed her pain for turning away the pregnant woman from the lone maternity care hospital in capital city.
She said, “I cannot even begin to fathom the pain & trauma the parents must feel.” “Heart wrenching that a pregnant woman was turned away from a hospital which ironically is named after the great Kashmiri mystic saint LalDed. She later gave birth to a still born in frigid temperatures. Cannot even begin to fathom the pain & trauma the parents must feel,” she tweeted.
The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G A Mir while expressing anguish, described the incident as shameful, deplorable and unfortunate. Mir hoped that the state administration especially the “helmsmen in health department will take strong notice of this shameful incident, and take effective measures to reform the health sector in the state.”
“Govt should ensure that no other lady is forced to turn away and deliver on road,” Mir said. “I personally feel that such type of behaviour on the part of medicos on duty was disturbing and amounts to gross negligence,” Mir said. Meanwhile, former minister and People’s Conference (PC) chairman Sajad Lone has demanded action in the case. “Woman gives birth on road. It is imperative that action is taken. Overall there is a dire need to reorient health devices to challenges of Today,” Lone wrote on Twitter.
