Facing ire from the teaching community, the district administration Baramulla has revoked the controversial order under which Patwaris had been assigned board exam duty.
Greater Kashmir on Monday reported that sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Uri had nominated five Patwaris as ‘duty magistrates’ for the JKBOSE exams. The order was valid till the culmination of the examination for these classes.
As per the order, the Patwaris were nominated as duty magistrates in five high and higher secondary schools of Uri area.
However, the teaching community had opposed the decision and threatened to boycott the exams if the order was not revoked.
Sub divisional magistrate Uri, Baseer ul Haq confirmed that the order was revoked after it was opposed by teaching community.
“The order has been revoked, Patwaris won’t be assigned any magisterial duty during exams,” SDM Uri said.
Earlier, director school education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo had assured that the matter would be taken up with deputy commissioner (DC) Baramulla.
Meanwhile, J&K Lecturers’ Forum has hailed the revocation of the order, saying the “monitoring and conduct of exams falls within the domain of teaching community”.
“It is a welcome move from district administration Baramulla. It indicates that government has full faith in the teachers for maintaining sanctity of the exams,” said Mir Fayaz spokesman of the forum.
Director school education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo said the government had taken note of the issue.
“The matter came to the notice of secretary education and such things won’t be repeated in future. Teachers won’t be discouraged or disappointed by the department,” Itoo said.
