PARLIAMENTARY POLLS|Islamia School Kargil nominates independent candidate for Ladakh seat, NC, PDP support

After much speculation and deliberation the influential Islamia School Kargil has nominated the local scribe and social activist Sajad Kargili as Independent candidate for Ladakh parliamentary seat.

Kargili had earlier played an active role in the agitationfor a separate divisional status for Kargil.

   

Various socio religious organisations including AnjumanJamiat ul Islam, Buddhist Association, Shia Association and Ahle Sunnat walJamaat besides some other social organisation have backed the nomination.

In a significant development two major political partiesNational conference (NC) and Peoples democratic party (PDP) have supported thenomination of Kargili as the Independent candidate.

Talking to Greater Kashmir over phone from Kargil, Kargiliexpressed his gratitude to the people of Kargil particularly Islamia SchoolKargil, other religious and social organisations for nominating him.

“I will work for the people of Ladakh particularlyKargil if I am elected,” Kargili said.

Meanwhile senior National conference leader from Kargil,Qamar Ali Akhoon confirmed his party’s support to Kargili.

“Yes we have decided to support him besides othersocio- religious organisations have nominated him” Akhoon told GreaterKashmir .

Senior PDP leader and MLC Haji Anayat also confirmed toGreater Kashmir about the party’s support to the candidate.

However Congress is undecided about either nominating theircandidate or supporting any other.
