Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Nazir Ahmad Yatoo on Tuesday demanded free ration for all Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries.
In astatement, Yatoo said all the BPL families of Jammu and Kashmir should be givenfree ration through Public Distribution System, and the government must ensurethat the ration was home-delivered to these families.
“Corona restrictions iscausing terrible financial stress to poor families, who are in trauma at thisvery particular time. These families are unable to meet their day to dayfinancial expenses, so it’s the good time for government to help these familiesby providing free ration,” Yatoo said.
He said in view ofpossible loss of livelihood and other difficulties from the last few days, thegovernment should immediately provide advance rice at lower rate to otherpeople.
“The government should also give cash assistance of Rs 1,500per BPL family towards purchase of other food items,” Yatoo said.
