‘PDP ready to give any sacrifice for PAGD’

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) general secretary, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hajura, on Thursday said any constituent of People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) authorised by the amalgam to field a candidate from a particular constituency is the “genuine alliance candidate” in the fray for the forthcoming District Development Councils (DDC) polls.

Addressing a press conference at the PDP headquarters here, Hanjura said any other constituent of PAGD which has fielded a candidate from the same constituency, where already a candidate of the amalgam has been fielded, must withdraw the candidature immediately. “As far PDP is concerned we are ready to give any sort of a sacrifice for the alliance. Whether DDC polls or Panchayat elections, these don’t matter for our party. However, I would request chairman of the PAGD DrFarooq Abdullah that  a holistic view of the seat sharing must be done once again and ensure that only PAGD authorised candidates are in the fray” Hanjura said.

Hanjura said any candidate from the constituents of PAGD which has not been authorised by the alliance to contest polls “must withdraw candidature” which otherwise might prove “counter-productive” for the alliance.

“It has been noticed that in some of the segments allocated to PDP, there is also an NC candidate contesting the polls. Also there are seats on which Congress prior to its pull-out from the alliance was supposed to contest the polls. However, these seats after the Congress pull-out were also given to NC without any consultation which is unfair” Hanjura said, while citing examples of certain constituencies where despite a PAGD authorised candidate, other constituents of the alliance have also fielded a candidate. Hanjura said “tall promises made by authorities of providing fool proof security to the candidates have fallen flat”.
