Expressing serious concern over the massive crackdown on pro freedom leaders, activists and trade body representatives across Kashmir, the Hurriyat Conference (M) Thursday said even holding peaceful candle light vigil and sit-in has become an eye-sore for the rulers.
According to a statement issued here, the Hurriyat spokesman said that it was highly condemnable that those taking part in human rights week (December 3 to December 9) were arrested and lodged in jails that include political workers and activists.
“Government action of disallowing peaceful protests by using military might deserves highest form of condemnation,” the spokesman said. “Government forces are scuttling every single program of the resistance camp and trade bodies aimed at highlighting the grave human rights scenario in Kashmir.”
The spokesman while condemning the arrest of senior Hurriyat leader ErHilal Ahmad War, Kashmir Economic Alliance Co-Chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar, Vice Chairman Ajaz Ahmed Shahdhar and others stated that those claiming to be the champions of freedom of speech and democracy are themselves turning “out to be the worst ever violators of the people’s rights as every single voice raised to highlight pain and miseries of Kashmiri people is crushed through military power.”
The spokesman said ahead of the world human rights day all the top resistance leadership stands caged either in their homes or in the jails and police lockups that include Syed Ali Geelani , Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik besides scores of Hurriyat activists which is nothing but the sheer political vendetta.
The spokesman said bloodshed and the prevailing instability in Kashmir is only because of the lingering Kashmir dispute and time is ripe for Delhi to address it once and for all.
