‘Pensioners will protest if demands not met’

A seminar titled “Islam aur Sikh Dharam Mei Yaganiyat (commonalities between Islam and Sikhism) was held at Ahata Wiqar, a recreational cum meeting space for elderly at Chanapora here Wednesday.

Eminent Sikh academic Dr Bali deliberated upon the theme andpointed out how the two faiths converge on certain themes.  Sardar Trilok Singh, a member of thePrabandhak Committee quoted verses from the Holy Guru Granth Sahib whilespeaking on the topic.

   

Abdul Gani Parray, who presided over the function and hadconceptualized the theme of the seminar, exhorted the elderly to build AhataWiqar into a robust institution while requesting the Social Welfare Departmentto make available several facilities there. Invited to the seminar were the topfunctionaries of the Pensioners’ Association. Its secretary Muhammad Ashraf Mirtold the audience of the elderly and pensioners about the activities of theassociation. President of the Association and veteran employee union leaderSampat Prakash warned the government that 100000 pensioners and theirgrandchildren would hit the roads if their genuine demands are not met by thegovernment.
